Default GT Spec Headers fouling std sump

Bit of an odd one this...

Tried fitting my GT Spec headers (2nd hand but from Lateral) today and they wouldn't fit as the fouled the Sump at the front passenger side (below the dipstick). Do I need a 2.5 sump or twin scroll or something?

Some of the GT spec headers were only made for the GC8 models and not the GDB. Some were made to fit both. Abit weird. Do the headers have a GT spec plate on them and are they SI marked?

Not sure on the plate as they are wrapped but have the SI Mark.

I had a small fitting issue with mine too on my Hawkeye. I had to notch a small part of the front subframe to get them to fit.

Not a big deal, but annoying all the same.

Yep that would be normal.

Can do a really neat job on this when you know in advance

Same here on a blobeye. Pig of a job trimming the subframe with the headers in place. Only realised the problem on the drive home from getting them fitted. Wore away some of the wrapping, obviously.

Subframe issue was addressed with an good old Irish Screwdriver - the sump issue however couldn't be sorted on the spot so I'm back on std headers for now.

Do the Twin Scroll sumps give better clearance?

Sump clearance on my 03 blobeye is no problem, just the subframe.

A few weeks ago i bought some equal lenght headers for my Bug, these too fouled on the sump so replaced them with some RCM headers.....these also had the fouling on the front of the subframe issue like you guys, as mentioned a bugger trimming the subframe with the headers on!

For the same item talk to Harvey Smith and he'll supply them DEI heat wrapped.
You WILL need a re-map after fitting these.

Just remember to paint over your notch so your subframe doesn't rust away!!!

If I'm remembering correctly you can actually remove the subframe from the front of the Bugs (Spec C's never had one).

I know about the re-map which is the most annoying part as we'd already switched the turbo before fitting the headers so it's going to mean 2 re-maps!

Drive was pretty good until I came across a whole row of cars that thought the national speed limit was 40! Managed to overtake the lot fairly easily only to come across another group, then another and another! Was only after Petworth I was able to get the hammer down and my god does it shift!

I already have some interest locally in the headers but will let you know the outcome!
