Default boot wont open (classic)

this morning i tried to open the boot and nothing... when you pull the inside release its likes its already opened as its slack and doesnt click also the key wont open the lock either so any ideas is there a way to open it from the inside could the catch be stuck and could it be clicked into the wrong position and be opened to work again?

There is a 'valet' lever on the lock that disables the internal release cable. I knocked this into the disable setting once and nearly replaced the cable before I heard about it.

Can you turn the key in the lock? Do you have a ski hatch so you can get to the lock from the inside?

oh ok that might be whats happened the catch might have been knocked into that setting. the key wont turn in the lock but to be honest i never use it so it might be seized up i didnt want to try too hard incase i snap the key off in the lock, what do you mean a ski hatch? obviously the back seats will go down flat so i could reach into the boot with limited room as i have a base box in the boot but i should be able to use a torch, so what am i looking for?

I don't think it'll be that lever, when it's setting is changed it makes it so that the boot will ONLY open with the key. If yours won't open with your key, either try another key, (I'm not kidding, my older key opens my boot, the new one won't), or you may have to get into the boot and try and make it release...and that won't be easy.

well i only have 1 set of keys and the key that opens the boot and drivers door wont open the lock on the boot, maybe a bit of wd40 will help. when i pull the internal boot release lever i can hear the cable moving like its working but its not opening the click, like its already stuck open but the boot is closed and wont open, it could be the cable has come off the latch but the release lever still falls back into position surely if it was snapped it would flap around loose and feel more slack but it still could be that.

all sorted now... i got in the boot with a torch and some help and managed to get the cable to release messing around with the latch and cable and i worked out there is a little lever that like mentioned earlier stops the internal release working so put it back and it works again thank god.

But you need to get to the bottom of why the key doesn't work?

Did you try the WD40?

when you open the boot lid on the side of the catch there is a little silver lever that moves up and down one position lets the boot release open the boot and the other stops the release from working i forgot which is which.
