Default BATTERY EARTH CABLES (CLASSIC)

Hi fellows, ive just removed my car battery to charge it and found the usual black/yellow thick earth cable connected to battery terminal but also found a thinner black/yellow earth cable which is not connected ? should this be on the battery terminal or to the chassis ? also any ideas what its for

Thinner earth wire usually attaches to the inner wing at the side of the battery.
