Water Spray
Have just bought my first Sti (upgraded from WRX)
Does the Water Spray actually make much difference?
I cant see it myself, i mean how much can it actually cool down the tmic, a degree or so!!

It makes a small difference if the car is static and has built up some heat soak.
As far as I can see it makes no difference on the run. You're better off losing the weight of the water from the tank IMO
I believe it was fitted to comply with homologation rules for the rally cars.

JDM or UK?
The JDM's have an auto setting as well as a manual setting, the UK cars only have a manual setting so its more of a toy, the auto setting on a JDM does much more than just squirt when stationary, I have used nearly a full tank of water on a hot day in moving traffic (12ltrs), but its not an easy thing to do to make a UK car do the same without some fiddling with another controller (its all built in on a JDM, its not on a UK car).

there is a misconception that waterspray should reduce ACT's on full boost, it doesn't and gets rubbished. In normal cruising, in and out of traffic it has a good effect keeping ACT'S around and below ambient.
The rally kit is a much beefier set up and is as much about cleaning the I/C in dusty conditions as reducing heat-soak.

The water sitting on the intercooler doesn't actually do much........it's when the water evaporates the intercooler actually gets colder.
The Latent heat of evaporation of water is really quite large (it's why aquamist works), just think of the "wind chill factor" on a day when it's wet and the wind is blowing.

I know Aquamist is water injection...............I've got it on my bug along with a 12 litre spec C tank in the boot

In normal driving conditions I find the effect of the water continues for a little while once the spray is switched off.
I would have thought spraying/misting water up into the air flow rather than down onto the intercooler would be more effective but as Steve BBY says it's just an homologation of the rally system.
