Noise after forged rebuild
Hi scooby's i have a 95 wrx wagon tht i have just rebuilt with acl bearings and forged pistons, my problem is the engine ran perfect for 2000 miles after rebuild then i noticed a noise when i let throttle off at 3000 rpm it got slightly worse after another 1000m, i changed oil and was no glitter in the oil (Noticed some glitter on first oil change after 500m) i also changed the cambelt tensioner as it was noisey (even tho it was a new one) the engine is running perfect apart from tht but am thinking is there any reason why a new bearing would get noisey after just being fitted? only reason i can think of is oil pump problem as is the only part i didnt change i would be greatful if anyone has experienced a problem like this thanks.

Hi just an update............... have split the engine to find all main and big end bearings compleatly worn and damaged!!!! after 3000m How has this happend? have removed oil pump relef valve and found no problem there , my theory is that when i had the blocks rebored some swarf might have entered an oil way in the block even though i pressure washed everything might have poss miss some in oil ways and soon as i ran the engine the swaff damaged the bearings! has anyone else come across this prob before?
now i belive my crank is scrap as you cannot clean the oil way inside the crankshaft super!!

Who built the engine? And did you change the modine oil cooler? Sometimes if youve had bearing fail before you will find bits of bearing in there and will go into your fresh engine and destroy it again unless a new one is fitted

Yeah is a real bummer! i built the engine all original bearings were in great condition was only rebuilding due to head gasket failure, things may be looking up as a mate has a engine thats suffered overheating so the crank should be good.
But have my work cut out cleaning every oil way in the block!

When i got the block back the guys who rebored it they made no attempt to clean out the swarf! and possibly got some in oil ways even tho i pressure washed the blocks. will be def replacing the oil pump and modine!

You need spend an hour on sump alone.
New oil pump and modine.
New crank defo.
And its not the machine shop responsibilty to ensure cleanliness of block.
It be the builder. continuious powerwashing and blowing in all galleries with an air line for couple hours is needed.

I aggre with legacysti its nobody's fault apart from mine, think i will spend a week cleaning everything then clean it all again i belive there are bungs in the oil ways in the block so should help with cleaning, am gonna split my mate's engine in week if all bearings are mint and crank is mint i will use the crank and modine ( with new bearings) as engine was over heated realy badly so he just swaped it with a second hand unit so u never know i might be lucky!! if i have any doubt will buy all new but as always money is tight lol
