Default v7bug uk/jdm

hi all
im very interesting in buying a v7 bug sti. had a classic sti v2, ra and sti v5 before. now i want something newer.

which is the one to buy? uk or jdm? i guess jdm because they always get the better parts....

what is different uk/jdm?

im a very performance focused. steering, engine response, gearbox, breakes, weights are most important parts for me

regards

DCCD for JDM MY01 RA and MY02 RA Spec C.

Regular 50/50 twin V.C. set up for UK.

I think. lol

I only went by this:-

Subaru Gearbox Chart

JDM Impreza WRX STi RA MY01 - TY856WB1BA - 3.636 2.375 1.761 1.346 1.062 0.842 3.545 1.000 3.900 DCCD (45:55)

JDM Impreza WRX STi RA Spec C MY02 - TY856WB2DA - 3.636 2.375 1.761 1.346 1.062 0.842 3.545 1.000 3.900 DCCD (45:55)

Don't know if it's correct or not (not clued up on New Ages all that much).

Admittedly, even if that is correct, they do differ from the Blob>on 35:65 split.

Mechanically there isn't a lot of difference between the UK and Jap for the bug STi.

The Jap bug WRX had AVCS (on the inlet side only I think) and ran 250 BHP as opposed to the UK WRX at 215 BHP.....so for the WRX the Jap version has an advantage (but crap brakes)

Jap STi bug RA was junked after a short while as it wasn't a whole lot different to the STi and the Race Altered moniker dissapeared forever with it. It Morphed into the Bug Spec C which was a much better car

For a 9 year old car I'd buy on condition rather than Jap / UK unless you want a WRX or Spec C.

the most important for me is

quick steering on sti v7 jdm bugs? quicker than uk spec?
is the engine really better? pistons, crank, rods this is what i heard. jdm can handle much more bhp/torque out of the box

The Bug STi was the first UK STi available and as such was mechanically similar to the Jap......

If you want a lighter bug with better suspension etc then you need to get a Spec C.

Shaun

PS just remembered, Jap Bug STi has shorter 5th and 6th Gears. Can't think of much else major on the mechanical front. Jap box not the best on Motorways though

hmm im sure ive ofte heard about stronger internals on bug jdm compared to uk spec even on bug eye not only just from blob or newer models.

what about the 13:1 quick steering rack?

the uk spec feels like a lorry especially with the original bus steeringwheel

what im looking for is a list with spec of uk and jdm pros and cons

if the jdm isnt that much better why should i go for a j-spec?

or should i save some money for a blob eye model? are they that much better?

Or save a bit more and get a Hawk Spec C ?

UK & JDM bugs are very similar in spec. mine has run well over 400 bhp on std. internals.

HTH

dunx

P.S. Blob and hawk Spec C are higher spec'd.

is a jdm rlly that much better? do jdm bugs come with 13:1 quicksteering rack or do i have to change for this anyway?

prodrive bugs are everywhere but i cant find a jdm. ok there are some but when i go jdm i want a white one!

The UK won't have the JDM's 35:65 split DCCD.

So if you like tail-out shenanigans (relatively speaking), then the UK one isn't ideal.

Ahhh, cheers for that. Right, so 'regular' JDM Bug STi's have the same non-DCCD 50:50 6-sp as the UK Bug STi's, then?

Sorry, not as clued up on the New Age.

Sign up and view the above link. Chap called Lee (Hendo) is selling a very well modded bugeye spec c (white) for £8k! Its a steal and am very tempted myself except the look of the classic can't tempt me away!
