Default about my STUPID IMPREZA!!!!

is there anyone near to sittingbourne in kent that can advise me or help me out with a little problem... i had a compression test and found out that one cylinder has no compression what so ever so i take it as its either a cracked ring or hole in piston?!?!

if its a cracked ring is this something i can do or best left for someone else

and if its a hole in piston how much roughly is it likely to cost or best options at keeping cost down?? i say keeping down because im saving for a rebuild and i dont want to touch that money untill its all saved up fr to pay for it

What made you get a compression test on the car? How had the car been running before?

It's an engine out, and heads off job regardless. Would be better off not touching/driving it until you've saved for your rebuild.

well i had oil **** every where smoke pouring out the exhaust pipe and was told oil seals had gone on turbo so replaced that still the same thing no power so had someone do a compression test and found out it werent the turbo it has to be either cracked rings or hole in a piston!

before the car ran spot easily one of the best running imprezas ive had it started perfectly ALWAYS warmed up and driven at 1500-2000rpm for last 5 miles to my house because of no turbo timer then left to sit for about 3 mins after a trip out!

Surely with the symptoms stated above the car would have run like a a bag of nails, hence it wasnt likely to be the Turbo?

nope this is what we couldnt understand becasue with the same problem and changing the turbo it still sounds as if nothings wrong even the guy that done the compression test said it dont make sense because it sounds normal!! its not making sense to me either i even posted a vid on FB and most of SES said the same

If it *really* sounds like there's nothing wrong when running (hard to believe if there's no compression!), then would be worth re-doing the compression test on the "faulty" cylinder: it's always possible a mistake was made.

Which specialist did you take it to get the compression test? If you're in Kent, Slowboy Racing are reasonably local to you in north kent, not far off the M25. People say good things about them and when I've spoken to them they were very helpful on the phone, although I've never used them. Worth giving them a try. I'd get a second opinion and don't go back to the original place that did your compression test, just to be safe.

If compression is down on cylinder 1 the whole car will judder on tick-over.

My cylinder 1 is 40% leakage and the car runs fine but shakes when I'm stood at the lights etc and occasionally kicks out blue smoke at start up.

Engine out, strip down, repair/replace, new gaskets, no doubt some machining etc, plus refitting engine...£1500 at least I'd say

£4,000 I was quoted but that included re-bore

I've got a £800 2nd hand bottom end instead.
