help please for more power from an v2 sti......
Hi guy's,
here is the story, the wife has a v2 sti and she loves it and the only way
she would sell her is for a scooby type r, so thats the plan untill the mrs
found out she is going to be a grandma
anyway thinking about it type r, baby seat ect ect you know what i mean
so i said to her keep the sti and spend some cash on her.
the car is a v2 sti, had a full rebuild and cam belt in 2009
but dont know what parts ect were used,
at the moment she has a 3" full straight through s/steel,
indution kit, 255 fuel pump and maybee more,
i would say she is running about 320BHP after having many jap cars,
first of all i think im right in saying the jdm sti has a td05 as standard,
so what's the td 05 16g, 18g, 20g, all about,
so what i want to ask you guy's is there such thing as a health check sort of thing to check the engine before more mod's and rolling road,
the wife would like about 400bhp if poss,
would that mean a remap, bigger turbo, reworked turbo, bigger injectors, new ecu,
be nice to have a front mount as i think it had before the rebuild as the iner-wing has been cut,
but aloot of expence and work,
what is the best route to carry out as above, is 400bhp possible with out too much stress, and how much would this cost from one of you guy's,
basically a bit more power and the mrs is happy,
all your input valued.
Shaun.

first you are going to need to know what parts were used in the rebuld 2 years ago. if oem parts then 400 hp from a v2. budget about 10K mate. new forged rebuild £3K, 6 speed gearbox £2.5K, turbo charger £1.5K, new ecu £1K fuelling, ignition, cylinder heads, cams, gaskets, brakes £1K another £1k for bits n bobs. then you have to get some one to fit it and map it.
cheaper just to buy a new age add a few bits n pieces and you will be close to 400.
if you put your car on the rollers you will be surprised how little power it actually makes. 260 out of the box. if it has been remapped maybe 280 - 300 at a push. don't forget oem internals wont be up to the sort of power you want (400ish). sorry to burst your bubble but modding a classic car to that sort of power is not going to be cheap no matter how you look at it. cheap and reliable don't go together. you need someone who knows what they are doing when putting this together.

some interesting points there,
various sites are quoting 275-280 jdm out of the box,
the wifes car is a v2 first full production STI and same as the 555 jdm.
just looking at our options because the wife only likes the classic as well as myself
whats the best way to check for mapping/ecu/injectors ect ect,
we live in the new-forest so a trip to simon's garrage in cadnam seems to be in order,
so most of you guy's would not uprate this car any further,
i know of a long engine running just over 400bhp for 2.5k less ecu, very good spec parts used, what do you think?

so £2.5K for your engine, £1K for mapped ecu, £2.5K for 6 speed gear box, fuelling, gaskets, new oil pump and modine, timing belt, clutch £1K. allow anothe £500 for sundries and then the cost of a good mechanic to fit and your still looking a considerable wad of cash. Does the £2.5K for the engine include the turbocharger? If not then you are looking at £500 minimum for a 20G.
Unless you have money to burn , i would stick with what you have got.
