As soon as you get 300/300 the 5spd clutch and gearbox are on borrowed time IMHO. From there on it becomes a question of usage and driving abuse
My clutch died about 1000 miles after, and the box another 500ish miles after that. The clutch dying prolongs the box but as soon as you put a meaty bite exedy in, the box is toast
Are the 5 speed boxes on the RA / R / STI's different to the UK classic Turbo 2000 boxes? Are P1 boxes 5 or 6 speed, what are these like?
Thanks
Sam
Yes TY752 boxes like mine a lots of fun but equally weak I have heard. UK TY754 are supposed to be stronger but they will still die slowly but surely from torque over 300+ IMHO.
P1 boxes are supposed to be stronger but I can't tell you why.
I am going 6Speed as it's the best factory option and well in excess of my power demands.
5 speed ty754 boxes vary depending on who you speak to. P1 boxes are the same 5 speed. 6 speed in new age STi only. much stronger and a helluva lot heavier.
I run 340ish on a v3 sti ra box with plenty of track action, a mate runs 370 on a V6 Type R box and a touch over 400 with his meth map.....again plenty of track action.
yes there are 100s of posts of 3rd and 4th gear cogs being stripped with a lot less power than you guys are running. i stuck a six speed in just to be on the safe side. i then proceeded to snap a rear driveshaft while drag racing on the Isle of Man. so 6 speed hubs and driveshafts all round now

I broke my V6 sti box 250 miles after being mapped for 400/400.
I broke 5th. Now runninga straight cut PPG box.
500bhp/tonne track car will be running an Albins 5sp gear kit
