Default Just a quick one?!?

Recently bought a 06 plate hawkeye wrx sti ppp and just wondered if its normal for the engine fan to kick in intermitently even from cold. I start the car and after the about 30secs its kicks in for around 15secs then stops, then repeats the cycle. Car seems to be running fine so any advice would be appreciated to put my mind at rest. Thanks

interesting one, i have a hawk sti and it doesnt seem to use the fan unless driven hard, could be down to simply i live up north and its inherently colder. What does the outside thermostat say the temp is, ifs its not real hot maybe a change of fluids is required but iam not expert. Also hows the fins on ur rad, bent etc?

Hi. I have a gb270 , had it from 56 miles, now 3067miles, my fan comes on within about 30 secs of starting, just as the car is coming out of the garage. Just thought it was normal.

Do you have air con fitted??

If so, and it's switched on, then you will find that the fans will run whenever the air con compressor is running, regardless of engine temp.

outside temp reads around 19, nothing too hot. it just comes on and the revs dip, then clicks of and the revs rise again, so on and so forth. Yes it has air con but its not been on. Cant say i have looked at the rad at all, im not really much of an expert eithe rbut i will have a look

That does sound like air-con, revs don't normally dip for the fan coming on, but do for air con compressor.

Would it only do it with the air con on? Because i havent been using it, could the compressor be on its way out?
