Default why is my engine check light on?

hello my engine check lights on what could be the problem? the car seem to be running fine

My missus' car did this last year. Turned out to be the knock sensor.
What year is your car?

if its a 01-02 Bugeye i am going to guess it needs a nuetral position sensor, but a bit more info from you would be better.

its a classic 1993 gc8 sti k reg

So its actually a MY93 wrx then? (STI's would be L reg plus as they were MY94 cars )
As said, check for engine codes, if you dont know how then google scoobypedia and self test

As above chap, if it's a 93 car then it won't be an STI. Use the search button to find out how to do the check.

the engine was changed in 2005 for 1995 sti engine

Seriously, some people really do expect the earth don't they.
The engine check light can come on for a variety of reasons. As said, do a search on how to self diagnose and engine check light issue. Job done.
