My missus' car did this last year. Turned out to be the knock sensor.
What year is your car?

bluenosewrx 12 June 2011 11:15 PM

if its a 01-02 Bugeye i am going to guess it needs a nuetral position sensor, but a bit more info from you would be better.

So its actually a MY93 wrx then? (STI's would be L reg plus as they were MY94 cars ;))
As said, check for engine codes, if you dont know how then google scoobypedia and self test :)

Tony:)

As above chap, if it's a 93 car then it won't be an STI. Use the search button to find out how to do the check.

faisal_scooby 13 June 2011 11:53 AM

the engine was changed in 2005 for 1995 sti engine

Seriously, some people really do expect the earth don't they.
The engine check light can come on for a variety of reasons. As said, do a search on how to self diagnose and engine check light issue. Job done.
