WATER/METHANOL INJECTION ADVICE
Hi all,
so i have a 2005 wrx blob with 320 bhp vf34.
remapped, full zaust, think it must have bigger injectors and a walbro too.
I was looking into the next stage of modding, after sorting out by brakes, i am considering investing in a water/methanol injection system.
Can anyone shed a bit of light on how they work, what they cost, type of power increase, how hard a job they are to fit, will the car need to be mapped after, so the spray kicks in at say 1bar? how much do they cost to maintain, also... what extra stresses do they put on the car and which parts.
Opinions, experience and evidence very welcome.
thanks

I'm running 50/50 water meth from a 12 litre tank in the boot linked to an aquamist 2D system.
All mapped by Bob Rawle.
Possibly the worst mod I have done £ for £. Broke two 5 speed gearboxes and I had to go 6 speed.

For information, if you go on to TSL Motorsport website and click on Engine you will find a good deal of info on the Perrin/Aquamist system they supply.
Also North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club, NASIOC have a whole section devoted to the subject.
I doubt you will find many advocates of the system on scoobynet, mainly because of the popularity of the FMIC.
I have the system supplied by TSL which was fitted by Zen in 2008.
Costs were: Perrin /Aquamist £595
Spec C 12 litre Water spray tank £150
Labour for fitting, 9hrs x £47.50= £427.50
The prices exclude VAT.
The car would have to be re-mapped but as the system has a standalone control unit the mapping wouldn't be any more complicated than normal.
Maintenance costs thus far have been nil.
My car is a 03 wrx and at the time of installation, with VF34/Pink 550 injectors, tubular headers it netted RR figures of 350hp which for some reason settled back to 341hp.
I never wanted a FMIC but I wouldn't spend the money in this way again.
The best person to speak to is the chap who maps your car.
Bob Rawle has experience of W/M so it may be worth contacting him if the advice drys up.
hope this helps

PS just saw Shauns post, gearbox not a problem for me, now with 2.5 conversion and 410lbsft torque, Bob Rawle map

Hi there here is good budget methanol kit

Yes Aquamist is best,but expensive.

but not the same power gains, I run both 10% meth in the tank and the W/M injection system.
I would evaluate gains for me after mapping, 7hp meth in the fuel, 15hp W/M injection. Others with more responsive set-ups would find different results.
The advantage with the W/M system is once installed it requires very little attention due to the very small amount it uses i.e only on boost and progessive with injector duty.

A meth kit's main function is to reduce exhaust gas temperatures which means cooler turbo. The bonus is that the meth also raises the octane which means you can add a bit more timing and boost, but the main function is to lower egt's. High egt's causes the exhaust housing of the turbo to crack.

The main function of a meth kit is to reduce egt's. They lower egt's by an average of 200 degrees C. It also further cools the intake charge and raises the octane allowing more timing and boost to be added.

The main function of "water injection" is to lower charge temps due to the latent heat capacity of water...... has been used for years and lots of aero engines used this
Reducing det with water injection means more advance and fuel

They threw in some methanol later
Adding Methanol was a german idea and IIRC was labelled MW50
Just off for a quick google....
