Default ECU Controller

Hi all,

I have just rexcently purchased my second subaru, first one was a uk turbo WRX 1999 and gutted when i sold it,

So....

I chopped in my BMW and got me a bugeye WRX 2001.

There is an ECU controller in the middle/top of the dash i have never seen this before and wonder if anyone can help?

It is currently not on? i have been give a lead to it?

Is it worth keeping?

what does it do apart from the obvious?

Thanks

Does it say anything on it to give us a clue, the extra's I have on my dash are a SECS monitor (gives out ECU info), defi controller, and a AVCR (boost controller)......all have the make and model

Yep.......That's what I've got. It plugs into the OBD II port under the dash and interrogates the ECU for info and displays it. Can be fitted with extra sensors for oil temp and pressure as well.

Can read codes and re-set the ECU so deffo worth keeping as the ECU was DENSO's first for the impreza and a bit buggy LOL

It should come on with the ignition, if not try pressing the buttons at the bottom right.

as an aside the company that made them ceased trading a few years ago so if it's truly broken then there's little chance of repair

No harm at all, all it does is read the ECU and provide info and warnings and has no actual "control" over the ECU apart from resetting.

As people have said very useful to have

That's excatly the same as mine.

I located the plug under steering wheel to find it missing, the slot is there but no connections, I had a deep look under the steering rack and found nothing!!

How bloody weird...!

Another question, if the ecu has been mapped and you reset it via this unit, would it put the ecu back to standard? Don't want to be doing that...!

Also is it possible to take a pic of the end that connects under steering wheel and the connection type under steering wheel?

Your help is much apppppreciated....

I'll take a few pics later.........it's bath time The re-set just clears fault codes and the learning side of the ECU. It can't actually re-map anything as the map is held on EPROM which the unit can't change.

just take the undertray off and look. i wouldnt be surprised if they pushed the connector up in behind so that the plug & cable is also kept in behind the undertray

Do you manage to unplug anything when you push the clutch down?
