Default 2006 hawkeye sti tickover rpm's ?

Just noticed today my car seems to idle at around 500rpm and im sure it usually idles around the 800 mark. i changed the backbox about a month ago and disconnected battery and let idle for 10mins after installation of back box and everything has been fine but rpm seems to have dropped today. Is 500rpms ok or is this some kind of tell tail sign that something is a miss ?????

I felt the same mate, I just try and enjoy it now, don't forget most people post when they have problems.
I'm going to start off by saying I have now got 62000 mile of great fun from my spec d and no engine failure

The internet is mostly full of bad stories and the good ones are rarely heard.
If the engines going to blow it will happen so iam not to waste time worrying about it, ill enjoy the car and fix it if it should happen, besides you can always make it a bit better on the rebuild

the only time to get paranoid about engine issues is very unstable Idle speeds, excessive oil consumption & smoke outta the exhaust lol

Alright chaps, my 2006 is one of the horror story's and I feel that the problems happen when the cars not been cared for. If you know the history of yours and are regularly checking the oil and coolant and putting v-power or equivalent in. Allowing the car to warm up properly before opening it up and thinking of the turbo you should be fine. My car was cared for by two previous owners then went to the idiot I bought it off who didn't have a clue what he was doing. He was putting normal unleaded in ragging it cold, not sure he'd ever put air in th tyres since he had it as they all were different. This was a local dealer of second hand cars. I
wish id walked away now with hindsight, but I know better now. I should have known he was a clown when he started trying to tell me it had a Porsche engine in it, to which I quickly responded "you mean boxer not boxter engine, right". To top it all off the limpest handshake I've ever come across. So enjoy them, and don't waste your time worrying.

Mine's all fine (at least for now) and it is true, it is all paranoia. Most of the specialists all agree. They say the hawkeye is a rock solid car and it is scare mongering you hear on the internet. You only ever hear the bad stories. There are plenty of classics which go wrong, plenty of bug, blob eyes which have faults of their own. The hawkeye also has a few of its own. You should hear the horror stories audi and vw have on their forums (multiply our number by more than 2!). I wouldn't change mine for any other model. Re my own issue (from my other post), car's all fine now for the last few days but Duncan is checking it over tomorrow. I'll update my other post
