crank pulley problem..
ok so had a thread up before named 'wobbly pulley'
mensioned that the pulley has play in it. now i had someone look at yesterday and they said that if the pulley had play in it the nut in the middle should not move, just pulley on its own should wobble.
noticed that the pulley and the nut in the middle are moving together at the same time.. could this be a more in depth problem like with the crank bearings?
heading off to another garage now to check it properly.

ok so just came back from seeing someone at a garage who also owns a classic. he said that it may well be the pulley but you wont find out until you take the pulley off and look in depth.
there is a slight noise appearing in higher revs like a ticking noise. maybe the pulley has caused this to happen?

These pulleys wobble for 2 reasons as musso says the bolt is loose in which case take it off check for any damage to the key etc and if ok refit and torque it up.They can also wobble because the outer is sat on rubber which can start to let go or go of centre which mine did so i replaced with a aztec alloy pulley which cured it.

Stop driving it mate until you have taken the pulley off. People don't realise that behind that pulley is a timing gear, and if the bolt is loose then the gear will start to move causing damage to the key way. Potential big bills. Trust me, I've experienced it first hand.

Yeh it may well be. Just that clicking sound it's started mAking randomly in high revs you can hear it when you got the bonnet open and revving it. Must be some sort of piston slap?
Anyway I can get a crank pulley in good condition for 10 pound posted from someone I know. Good price?

Mate, did you not read my earlier post?
Mine made that clicking noise. It was the two parts of the pulley moving against each other once the rubber had perished.
Cured it with a replacement pulley, since removed and an alloy one fitted.
NO piston slap.
