odd squeeking from wheels
jack it up 1 wheel ata time spin th ewheel and listen
, if its wheel bearing it will be more of a rumbling sound and you might feel some play in the wheel, a trapped stone will squeal like a pig, and brake pad will sound like metal against metal plus if you look through wheel at caliper you should be able to see state of pad left

i had squeaking coming from back wheels and have replaced all the brakes front and rear no more sqeaks it must be a warning that you are getting to the last bit of the brake pads material and get it changed pronto...
what are the best pads around? (apart from bluestuff as they are pricey lol)
Hi mate I'm not that clued up on the earlier STI but I went back to a standard pads as I don't rag the car and it still brakes so well but mine has Brembo's. .just because you have a lip on the disc doesn't mean you have to change then! so get them checked by a garage you TRUST not somewhere like Quick Fit as they will tell you they need doing even if they don't.
If you do decide you need a change I would have a look at Godspeed/Aztec grooved discs with Kevlar pads great price and get good reviews.

You never know but it could be something that is stuck. I had something similar to what you're describing ubt it went when I threw a load of water over it, of all things.

Is the noise coming from the front or back? Could be a number of things tbh. I put up a thread a few weeks ago as i had a irritating squeak/creaking noise coming from the front. when pulling away mainly but also turning. i thought it was the cv joint but it turned out to be the wheel bearing was really suprised as it didnt sound as though it was a bearing noise lol
