Bought my55 wrx 29000 miles, in December and took it out today and it failed. Sounds like camshaft or bearing failure.

Tools required
And any drawings exploded views or parts list for the ej20 engine please.

Hi there if you want to do on your own you will need probably Subaru service manual and lots of patience.
About the upgrading, depend if you have 2.5 or 2.0.
If you have 2.0 really good investment will be 2.1 Stroker kit which selling Advance Autmotives or Mark@Lateral performance.
Or if you have 2.5,you can go forged route(forged pistons, rod and HG set etc.) as 2.5 are known with failures.
Second option get engine rebuild here known companies such as APi,Engine Tuner or Harvey etc.

No had no experience with engine building, but am an aerospace engineer, so it shouldn't be much of a problem with the right advice a short engine sounds like the way to go, where's the best place to look and what type of prices do they go for?

have been losing oil for a few weeks through the sump, think i tried remedying the problem too late had the sump off today resealed refilled following the process as stated on here but i think it was already letting go last week, no aftermarket parts fitted is a one owner full service car. pretty pissed off but just need to get it sorted.
as for letting someone do the job ill explore every avenue before doing anything i want it right.....its my third impreza just been unlucky this time.

so did it start knocking after resealing the sump ,
did you turn over first with crank sensor off till oil pressure built up and light went out?
maybe excess sealer clogged pick up pipe .
trouble is you see so many try to rebuild on the cheap but get bitten twice as hard .

where you from as can recommend from there, always best to try find the cause of the problem if you are to reuse parts,to save further headache as said above fairly low mileage for failure really unless been run very low on oil.
