Default Classic conversion to newage heads

Hi,

Does anybody have a complete list of what is required to fit newage heads to a classic? Looking for a big increase in flow and looking at my options.

I currently have a 97 type r with simtek, parallel fuel rail adaptor (converts side feed to top feed), uprated cams.

I've been looking into the cost of head porting and it seems easier to get hold of a set of ported/polished v7 or v8 heads than it is to get mine sorted.

Does anybody have a list of everything needed so I know what I'm letting myself in for?

I think you can get a harness for Simtek to run AVCS heads, I know you can wire up Syvecs to run them. My guess is you need the heads with all sensors etc. and cam pullies. You'll also need to change your turbo oil feed.

Nothing easy or cheap about it Screech. The other thing is you already have cams which would be of no use in your new heads. So factor in the cost of converting to AVCS, supplying another set of modified cams and the associated valve train and your original heads seem an attractive proposition again.
Feel free to call me, you have my number.

£450+ for AVCS heads and Cams then factor in the mapping/Ecu conversion costs. That is assuming you don't uprate/refurbish the second hand heads!

Have found a set of heads overseas which have already been fully sorted with the porting, valves, springs etc so I want to know what else would be needed

That's what this thread is for to try and get a list of all parts which will be needed to make the change

Screech are they AVCS or Non AVCS heads, and do they come with the uprated cam's already?

If it's NON AVCS, then it's not as difficult.

Your injectors are already top feed so will Fit the newage heads.

Inlet their is 2 options,
1. use a Newage and have the simtec sent off for modification for the Idle control etc. (MY Choice) their is a Spec C manifold on ebay now currently at £225 The spec C has No TGV and is a one Piece manifold unlike the Newage WRX or STI

2. have a V1/2 Inlet cut and extended, and get the Inlet Manifold Adaptors (Ph.1 > Ph.2) £225

if the heads have come off a 2.0, then the combustion chamber will have to be opened up to suit the 2.5.

A new set of gaskets, Cambelt and IIRC probably time to do the Tensioners on yours too.
Oil & Filter

Cam Covers are also totally different so you will need a set of Newage ones.
I however have some and need the classic's as i will not be doing the newage heads now, i could swap them for yours.

Will chat to you more tomorrow when I refit your Inlet manifold.

Good points there on the inlet manifold - I have two newage WRX manifolds for sale plus one set of tumblers - if you go Spec-C which I have don't pay £225 as I got mine from Saj @ Japperformance for £100!

Biggest issues will be the ECU - I'd get in touch with your mapper and find out if your Simtek can run the heads and what additional wiring would be needed, not forgetting you'll need a newage throttle body as well to fit the inlet manifold I believe.

I'd also fit a set of phenolic spacers as well while the inlet is off.

Just in case anybody was interested these were the ones I found

I'm going down this route; v5\6 IM does fit AVCS heads...ECU choice is Syvecs, Motec or Hydra...I'll be running ported and polished MY03 sti heads, v6 IM and Hydra that supports AVCS but with a v6 loom adapter with a mni loom made up for the AVCS triggers and sensors.

No cheap or staight forward but should be good fun.
