My00 ecu
I keep hearing that my99 ecus are so much better than my00 ecus which i have. I havent quite decided to go ecutek or simtek but my question is, if i went for ecutek, does it make any difference which ecu i have? Does the ecutek completely override the characteristics of either ecu or would i get better results from a my99??
Thanks in advance

Model year 99 ecu is a E3(AE800/801) and the label is normally red for the early ones or black for later ones. MY2000 ecu is a Y7(AE802) and the label is green. Both can be ecutec remapped, but the earlier ones run a slightly different map,and can tend to produce slightly better results. However not really worth changing from a MY99 to a 2000 imho, unless considering going for a simtec , as my 99 uk turbo made 317 bhp & 316 lb/ft on a E3 ecu,3 weeks later my mates MY 2000 wagon made 319 bhp & 316 lb/ft with similar mods using an Y7 ecu, with both cars being mapped by the same mapper, yet my car had 132k on the clock while my mates had 45k .
I know the 99/00 models are prone for weak maf's,but up to now i have not had to change one on either of the 2 cars i have owned in the last 2.5 years & i am at the limit as to the power i wanted from my car initially(50% increase),so the ecutec was the right option for me.
