Default How long for engine rebuild?

Hi all. just a quick message to you all for some advice.
Having my engine rebuilt , I may have mentioned before? I would like to see what your comments are about the length of time it would take to have a complete engine rebuild! on a 2.5 lump
That would include new linners some .
Some cylinder head repair only one.head but both checked and rebuilt.

The motor was a runner with the mapping all correct, new parallel fuel lines/ swirl pot and turbo before things went west.

So it should be a case of just a remap once all is in place for a running in map.
So how long? The engine work started LAST year in September. Dont laugh!
So thats over 8 Months. I do understand it would take a while but I think 8 months is a long time.
To put it another way , It has cost me £1200 or so for the car to gather dust , with insurance/ tax/ Tracker costs.
Ouch! and then the bill!

My engine build took about 2 weeks from my old engine being palletted to Andy Willams (WMS) and the new one returning fully built. Should only take a day or so to remove/refit if they know what they are doing!

Engine build was a fully forged 2.5 with completely rebuilt heads (AVCS).

Sounds like the guy is swinging from you presumably double barrelled pump action porridge rifel IMO!!!Two weeks to a month is acceptable. 8 months for a straight foward rebuild? I'd of been on the phone having stern words long before now. Are you sure they aren't taking you for a ride? Who is doing the work out of curiosity?

Mine took 8 weeks, but for new block, heads skimmed, etc.
Most of it was waiting around for parts, etc.

In retrospect I should have MOT/Taxed/re-insured my UK Turbo and driven that, which would have been the same as the 8 weeks car rental, and given me a spare car to use for the year....

In your case, getting refund on tax (400+ bracket ?) and a SORN declaration might have saved a bit of cash.

I base all my work on a max of 2 weeks turn around, the only thing that would cause a delay would be if you needed some new parts (block/heads etc) and they were hard to get hold of. But 8 Months!!!!!!!! I could drive to Japan and back to collect the parts in that time!............Although I wouldn't want to at the mo.

Depends on work load of garage. And parts availibilty. Cosworth at moment can be slow some parts.

I would think area 8-10weeks max.

Standard rebuilds as above 2weeks max.

Thanks for your replies,
I would rather not name and shame the company involved, but my user name may give it away?
I have been told that the block has been heated in a oven for a couple of weeks ,to make sure it is stable for the machine work , that includes very thick linners[ 13m/m?]
and the machine work it takes to reline the block etc.

I think I have been a bit soft to say the least in putting pressure on the company invloved in doping my work.
It is also frustrating seeing cars on this post getting work done [turbo changes/ mapping / billet turbo swaps.] within weeks ,and I am still twiddling my thumbs!

I suppose another phone call , another message left , and no return call again.
And regarding Cosworth parts , I think that very little of there items are being used. Well I hope so .

Stanmo what was your motor? 2,5 cossie?
Paul.

Paul.

i think it depends on what your asking for and the situation. better to take the time nad get it right, than rush and **** it up. also have you changed what your plannign to have done at all?

Hi Tidgy,
I have left the engine work in the hands of the company involved , so they have decided , what needs doing to the engine to make it strong and reliable.
Before it went pop ! it had already had all fuel upgrades, turbo , and anything else reqiured to produce the power safley.
So from the start the engine builders knew of the power ,it was going to produce. So it is realy a case off [I think] just executing the machining and building the motor up.

Ok so parts take sometime to get , and maybe some issues with machining, but that should be the only obsticals?

Have they been in touch with you? Surely they should have told you what was going on with your engine, if it had taken this long I'd be asking/demanding some answers

i've finished rebuilding my lump today, it's been 2 weeks so far from removing the engine upto rebuilding it etc, most of that time was spent waiting for bits and cleaning/machining parts.

8 months is too long tbh, if they're really busy with other work inbetween doing yours then it's kinda explainable, if they haven't got much other graft on then it's a p1ss take.
