Default Worth cleaning out the TMIC?

Gonna spend an evening straightening out my intercooler fins with some tweezers as I've got an upcoming remap soon and was wondering if there's much point filling it with petrol and sloshing any crap out of it?

Would the minimal oil / grime build up hinder performance significantly?

Thanks

after you straighen the finns turn it upside and powerhose it - you'll be surprised the amount of crap will come out

never bothered putting petrol in mine to clean it out internally but im guessing it wont do it any harm if you wanna go that far

i did mine, was fitting prodrive pipe so i took it off, picked bugs out of it, straightened fins and cleaned with carb cleaner, looked very shiney afterwards.

Well after about 5 hrs of very tedious tweezering my tmic is now back to vaguely what it's supposed to look like,

I reckon there must of been an area the size of a postage stamp that was undamaged the rest was totally mullered like its been used as a tool tray, couldn't have been very effective as i doubt any air could actually flow through it

Small area before (by far not the worst)

After - can only be a benefit now surely!

I could do with straightening my fins.

Has anyone used one of those? Is it better/quicker?

Makes life a lot easier and quicker as it does a few fins at a time, instead of just one at a time with a pair of tweezers

Looks day & night better, surely it's going to make a big difference.

Did you wash it as well - if you did how much crud came out? I can't see right down into mine and was wondering if it's a collection pit

I didn't flush mine in the end, and the tweezering was done with tmic in situ, in the dark with a lead light.

Defo recommend removing it to do the fins coz by the end of it my left arm and hand was mullered supporting myself, backache from leaning over and my vision started going all weird from staring at the fins for so bloody long, lol

Yes, I'm afraid there are quite a few idiot mechanics who use it as a tool tray! In normal use the fins shouldn't get that badly distorted.

This tool doesn't work...

Tried it (the one linked) and it only works on straight finned matrix, not the slanted ones on the intercooler
