Default oil leak?

ok so ive been having some problems with the wagon lately after getting some funky smells i posted on here a week or so ago and got a few ideas of what it could be, i had my suspicions it was the head gasket and on a closer inspection today after i started her with the bonnet up i noticed steam or smoke coming from under the header tank so i took out the air box for a closer inspection and found this, it looks to me and im no mechanic that the oil or fluid is coming out from under the black thing witch is mounted on top of the head. what is this black thing what does it do and please give me some help lol .

Get the pics hosted on the net, Photobucket etc do it.

Then, when you post click on the image icon, looks like a postcard, and enter the image code from off photobucket.

Looks to be the same state as mine mate. Heavy smoking from engine bay, especially bad after working away all week and starting her up on a Friday. Anyway. My mate had car up on the ramps couple weeks ago to do the clutch. Turns out both my rocker gaskets are weeping on to the headers making it smoke alot. Not losing a lot of oil, just a bit embarrasing when sitting at lights with smoke pouring out the vents....

I got quoted £18 a side for the gaskets from graham goode. If your handy with spanner and socket set you should be able to do them yourself. I'm going to do them myself, mate said it's not to bad a job
