Default p1 ticking noise at idle looking for advise

hey guys looking for a bit of advise just bought a scooby p1 w plate and love it after having evos for years i regret not finding this before now its epic but theres a ticking noise coming from passenger side area of the engine at idle it doesnt seem to rise with engine speed either that you just cant hear it and the car pulls amazingly with no smoke and i dont have any idle or running issue it sounds almost like a tappet or noisy injector iam going to service it 2moz as i think its been lying for a while change oil and filter with flush and injector cleaner
any thoughts or advise would be appriciated
also any preference on engine oil to be used
cheers

Alright mate first off is the car modified as that will determine the oil needed for a service.
On the ticking sound i wouldn't be concerned to much as long as its just a ticking noise and not knock,as subaru engines are qiute renowned for being a little noisy im a fraid.
My motor has quite a noisy tick over but vanish's as soon as the rev's are picked up

Oil, either shell helix 10w40 semi synth or shell helix ultra 5w40 fully synth (or a good alternative).
Noise, could be an injector, as long as its not a knocking then your normally ok
Engine flush.... errrrm nope, injector cleaner (redex is like 2 quid for a decent sized bottle at Asda atm), I would also see when the belts were changed last, 3 years on a P1 (even though its an MY00 car its based on a version 5 which is an MY99 which have 3 year/45k changes rather than 4 year/60k services).
Your best option is to take the car to a speciallist and get it fully serviced and checked out.

Tony

cheers for the reply mate it doesnt sound like a knock and it pulls well but theres always a worry lol
the engine is standard i believe nothing obvious modified but well quick spoke to subaru and the advised 10w40 semi but i dont know if thats a bit heavy i was thinking 5w30 semi would be more suitable but i aint a scooby expert and i will take any advise onboard
never buying a evo again love my p1 its like a big go kart

just outside glasgow mate i bought the car on a bit of a punt broke all my usual rule for buyin a car but when i got it i had a reciept from company saying it had a engine swap and was due a engine oil swap and flush after 1000miles and my thought where if it is a sticky tappet due to being lay up the forte might clear any crap from the internals
the biggest problem ive got now is that ive caught the bug now and want to start modifying and creating a flame throwing beast lol i bought it with the intension of putting a tow bar on it and using it for the jetski and playin but i love it so much i cant put a bar on it and now thinking of selling the ski and goin in search of serious horses lol

Probably slight piston slap. Common on some Impreza's but nothing to worry about.

that engine bay is a work of art mate what is it pushing
i think mine is pretty standard but very quick pulls constantly no matter what gear youre in, but iam in between because i love the fact its quick reliable and pretty good on the fuel to compared to the evo and range rover i had before but if i start to mess about u can quickly cross the line lol and lose the above points
but theres always the little devil on my shoulder shouting for anti lag and flames lol

prodriverules is that a different manifold or is it standard and been coated and if you do a front intercooler conversion do you have to remove the aircon system

If you are really worried just make a video & put it up on here. If it goes away when hot or even if you can hear a faint tick then nothing to worry about.

I had a V3 STi a few years back that was very noisey on start up due to piston slap.

finally got the car on the ramp today and couldnt believe my luck found a loose plug lead it was arcing in the tunnel but still getting to the plug engine off refitted the leads restarted and silence, i was dancin in the garage had nightmares of big ends and engines out iam delighted
i never for a minute thought it was a loose lead due to the volume of it and the fact all was running well fully service and ready to play and no other nasty suprises or leaks think i got lucky
