Default Oil feed to turbo

Hi, I wondered if there was a reason for the feed hole on the banjo bolt being so small?
Reason I ask being I am looking to put a braided feed onto the turbo which has a bigger feed hole and wondered if this would have any negative effect?
I am aware that with bb turbos there is a chance of the oil being pushed past the bearings but what about with the td04?
The turbo won't be on a Subaru but shouldn't make any difference?

Thanks!

The td04 needs more oil as its not a ball bearing type.

Ok thanks bugeyejohn. They hole on the standard banjo bolt is tiny so didn't know if there was a reason for that. Hopefully it will be ok with more oil going into it, worst comes to worst I'll need to get another turbo I suppose!

Thanks Aladdin but the turbo won't be on a Subaru, I'm getting a line made up to suit

The OEM uses a banjo restrictor. You don't want to go bigger than that or you may push oil out the seals so use the same banjo bolt.

BB turbos require less oil and typically have an even smaller restrictor.

The point of the restrictor (whether BB or journal bearing) is to reduce oil pressure in the center section.

I hoped that wasnt going to be the case

Is it definate that it will push oil out or will it just be putting more pressure on the seals and increasing the likelyhood?

Thanks alot for the reply though, the kind of info i was looking for

Ideally yes, but its my old man making my braided line and being a stubborn bugger, and since i dont know any better, insisted a bigger hole letting in more oil would be better and the standard banjo bolt will be too short to take a hold with the new banjo end.

might have to find out for sure the hard way

thanks for everyones help though

I remember reading somewhere the ball bearing type use a 1mm hole restrictor and the td04 non bearing 1.5mm.You can buy fittings to reduce the size if needed.
