2001 WRX Alarm Going Off
Hi,
My brothers 2001 WRX (with what I think is the Sigma standard alarm system) has developed a problem where the alarm keeps going off even if the alarm is not set.
Symptoms are if he simply switches the car engine off then arms the alarm or not (it makes no difference) after a short while the alarm will go into sporadic bleeping followed by the full blown alarm?
Any ideas?

Mines the same, i ended up disconecting the siren as i only start the car up once a week as it's garaged at the moment.
Alarm goes off constantly, whether it's turned off or on and you can start the car with the alarm going, you can lock it and unlock it and the indicators aren't flashing.
I'm putting it down to a faulty sensor or i think that if the battery level gets low it can set it off, you can isolate the fault by turning on the igniotion and pressing 0 on the keypad and then quickly switching off the ignition, this should isolate the fault for a short period of time.
Doesn't work on mine as the alarm is going off when i try do it.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies,
This is driving me and the neighbourhood spare
The only way i can deal with this is to disconnect the battery.
Nuttz, cheers Bud the car uses the blue subaru fob to arm and disarm, how do i switch off auto arm ?
95turbowagon, thanks for the info mate, how do i go about disconnecting the siren, the alarm system on the bugeye appears to be under the wiper grill on the drivers side.
All answers much appreciated

Latest update
Disconnected the battery last night at 7:00pm and removed a thin black cable which connected from the + terminal of the battery to a spade connector which then dissapears into a wiring loom. This cable also has a 15a inline fuse connected.I cleaned the spade connection as well as the fuse connections.
11am today I reconnected the battery and the black cable however my blue key fob was dead ie no remote door operation or starting of the vehicle.
I replaced the fob batteries and hey presto all, kicked back into life.
The car has now been sitting for 3 hours locked and armed without a peep from it.
I had the car battery checked also and it is fine as i initially thought it may be dropping voltage triggering the alarm.
Still not totally convinced but i will update accordingly.

Someone has suggested that it may be the siren for the sigma alarm that is faulty and that this has its own rechargable back up battery which may be goosed.
The siren can seemingly be replaced complete with built in battery as a seperate unit.
Does anyone know where the siren is mounted in a 2001 WRX

You will need to get the wiper motor out aswell, there are 3 bolts two of them drivers side and one in the middle.
Siren has one bolt in the middle behind the intercooler, is a bit of a pain to get at. Once you have the siren out you need to remove the bracket that secures it to the car so you can undo two screws holding the siren together. Once that is done the siren will come apart, there is a little electrical board and i think a 9V battery, disconnect wiring inside and your done.
Took me about half an hour to get at it and put the car back together.
