Default Best front wheel bearings?

My front bearing went out with a "squeek" recently, going from no issues or problems at all, to a constant squeek in turns.. In about 200miles the bearing went from perfect to 1" play either way!

So I searched around, and found several threads on front bearings not being the best on WRX`s. Some say STI is bigger, others say they are not, and I doubt it since I have a STI-RA tranny/axles, and fits perfect in WRX hubs.

Some claim they use Legacy bearings, and it fix things?

Can someone please share some info on this? I have WRX hubs (not STI), and this is front (rear end info is ofcourse almost as interesting).

So should I order some Legacy bearings/hubs?

I have an sti and kept having bearings fail on the front. In the end new set of bearings were stripped and repacked with better grease and they've been fine for a couple of years now. It was said to me that excessive heat from the brakes causes the normal grease to become to liquid and leak out the bearings. The super high temp stuff was fitted in mine and alls been good so far

Hi,

yep good grease is a must. I also have 355mm brakes that greatly reduces heat on the hubs. Good tip though.

Anyone heard of the legacy mod? Or any other mod?

When my rears were replaced, the replacements came from a bearing manufacturer, rather than SUBARU. Mine were made by SKF.

Cheaper, too.

Do you have part numbers from any other manufacturers, matching the Subaru bearing 28016AA011NT ?

No, it was an age ago, but go onto www.yell.com, bearings, and phone, they WILL cross reference for you, it's their trade
