where to re-map
Hi Guys, I have recently purchased a cat back system with up pipe from hayward and scott and I am being told once the up pipe is fitted I really need to get the car re-mapped.
What I am basically asking is what is the rush is it detramental to the engine if not done righ away?
I would also like to know your opinions on who. I have had a couple of cars done previously by Wayne at chip wizzards (as i live 3 miles away) and was always happy with the results, but I am not sure if I want to use a scooby specialist for this.
I have been in touch with scooby clinic and I think they are very expensive.....but are they I dont know?!
Please help.

Theres also Jolly Green Monster on this forum for Remaps, have always read good things about them.
As for remapping after decating and if its necessary, I asked this very same question a while back and got lots of good info replies. In a nutshell, yes definately remap to tune the engine properly to take advantage of the new mods and stop it from going bang too.
Heres the link to the thread I started...

Hope that helps.

Sorry mate but everywhere else I have been in touch with since, via pm's etc are coming out at least £100 cheaper than that. TBH I don’t want to make enemies on here but when I rang up last week I was asking questions and was given 1 word answers and as my status shows I am a Scooby newbie so "ECUTEK" means nothing to me and I felt like you just wanted my money. I do want to use Subaru specialists however I want the knowledge for my £550 + vat as well as the job and "free rolling road time seems", the guy on the phone didn’t seem interested in talking me through my options so that I was able to make an informed decision about your service. If you were to explain to me what I am getting that is better than the other people/companies on here then I will put you back into my consider pile!!!
For mapping your standard ecu there is only one option (with us) and that is ECUTEk other than replacing the ECU for an after market one ie Simtek/syvecs etc prices start from £1000 + Hence that was the only option discussed as you wanted your standard ecu mapping.
£550+ vat is and industry wide price for an ECUtek map, others are offering mapping for less but they seem to be using "open source" software which is a cracked copy of ECUtek software that we will not use!
I'm sorry when you phoned that I didn't realise you were a scooby newbie and again I'm sorry if you felt I came across as not interested as I most certainly am!
Hope you get it sorted properly who ever you use.
Cheers

Ok Mate cheers for the advice. I do understand that I dont want a remap just by having someone come down and load a file on my ecu and that a custom map is much better. Should I be asking people what it is they do? Should I also be wary of the answer I get?

I would be asking what software is being used and more importantly who will be doing the mapping!
We have seen a lot of folks popping up recently who have simply bought a laptop & cable downloaded some software and are now "mappers!"
A classic case of all the gear and no idea!
There was a spate last year where we were seeing 2 cars a week with engines blown to bits by these so called mappers and had to deal with an abundance of upset customers that they caused!
Mapping is one side of car tuning where cheap can sometimes bite you down the line so be aware when booking a mapper.
If you ask on here who scoobynet members recommend for mapping I'd be surprised if the list was longer than 10 names.
Please note all our mapping is done on state of the art Dyno Dynamics rolling road therefore not risking your licence/insurance/life etc and there fore comes with before and after printouts and not a guestimation
I hope this helps

TBH cheap may not always be best but you can never beat cheaper, I have had a phew pm's on this subject today and I have decided to go with Duncan for 3 reasons, he comes to me, he is cheaper and he has good reviews. I am also not after track blistering speed at the moment i just want the car to respond well to the mods i am doing. Although when i do decide to get into the +300hp range i will deffinatly be contacting Ads again. Thank you all for your information it has been very helpful.

Even running in the 300bhp and above Duncan works his magic on the car. He has mapped mine twice and it is running around 330bhp (still to get new clutch in and get it on the rollers). But the car feels great with good boost throughout the revs. So even for over 300 bhp still use Duncan as he really knows his stuff!

im a mod on mid scoobs and i know of at least 5 members who had there car blown up by the same company pliugging in maps and driving off. They also had no liability insurance so the customers had no cover at all and ended up with no engine and no money for a new one, i know at least two of them got sold as rolling shells .
software, while important, isn't the most important part. who the mapper is is, its there skill and knowledge that makes the difference between a good and bad car, also an engine running well or needing rebuilding.
alot of the cheaper maps you get quoted for tend to use opensource software, im still not convinced by it, the support in the background doesn't seem to be there (not from the mapper i might add, but form the software suppliers).
ecutek is the common software you'll come across and its well supported by the developers (rumour has it alot fo the open source software is derived from ecutek code, how it got there, well i'll let your mind think about that one ). the downside to using it is theres a license fee the first time the car is mapped. After that you don't pay the fee again and the cost of a second map comes down.
scoobyclinic have done all my mapping (best part of 10-15 mpas i'd guess for various mods over time lol) and always been more than happy with them. they use Pat herborn for ecutek maps and you wont find a better mapper, he also does the mapping for API. top chap and a walking encyclopedia on scoobs.
