Default EML on for no reason?

Hi... just dropped my mate home after cinema literally a few minutes down the road. Parked up for a second, went to drive off and noticed the EML was on. Drove a bit more and made a stop off for about twenty minutes, back in the car and the light was still on! car still driving absolutely perfectly and I did nothing out the norm, what's happening there!? I'll see if it's still on in the morning but any ideas?

Cheers.

Unfortunately still there this morning... can you provide anymore information on this diagnostic check? I know nothing about it. I have a service due in May (really can't afford it before then anyway!) I don't want to damage the car by driving it around with the EML on for three months

I'm guessing it'd be a dodgy sensor too.

Do you have a local friendly garage that could do a diagnostic check?

Sorry my car's a 2003 STI PPP. I have a garage just up the road which my family has been using for years... not Subaru specialists though, guess they would be okay for just a check over?

If it is just the sensor is this a cheap enough/easy to sort item!? Cheers

It doesnt just come on for no reason, it comes on because the engine management has picked up a fault, so you need to get it to a garage (whilst paying for your service ) and get it checked out.

So do you reckon without anything 'feeling' wrong with the car... I should be alright until my service is due? It's just I have £1,365 worth of holiday to pay off before April, so I literally can't afford to do anything with the car until I return! If it comes to it, I'll just park it up on my drive and walk to work lol.

Sorry to sound harsh but driving around untill april with the check engine light on is mad, dont think you would have a very nice holiday knowing you had to come back to having to rebuild the engine.
should not cost much to get the fault checked then if the part is too expensive best to leave it off the road.
engine could be detting without knowing and causing damage.

You could always buy a fault code reader from ebay for < £25 and read the DTC yourself.

The CEL code will still be in memory.
Find someone with a code reader.
