overheating help bugeye
,hi all
i have a problem (hopeing someone can help) ,,
last night i went for a pint with the mrs , the pub is 10 miles away i did about 60 all the way , when i got there i was idleing in the pub carpark for 5 mins and i saw steam coming from the drivers side back of engine,, itemp was normal , i opened the bonnet and the top hose was boiling hot and the bottom one was cold,,, this morning i removed and checked the thermostat and it is working ,, any ideas ? pump ? headgasket ,,,,

i have noticed that in the mornings the hoses seem to have sucked in ?
and if you open the cap they go back out and i top up a bit of water ,,,
its a standared wrx 51 plate with 53000 miles on the clock
im new to scooby net and not sure how to surch,,
any links ?

So,you tested the Stat and it opened up when you put some water around it from the microwave (normal tap hot or kettle water doesnt usually make it open) ??
The weird part is,the symptoms point to stuck shut stat,yet the temp gauge was normal,yet the bottom hose was cold so the stat hadnt opened.
As said,if steam was visible then water must be leaking.

Water pipe to turbo? As Dunx has said they get a lot hotter than you think.
Change the thermostat anyway.
What power are you running. What header tank cap are you running?
