Default Knocking sound on full lock

I've recently bought an Outback and when I reverse on full lock there's a fairly quiet knocking or clicking sound - it also feels like I'm driving over a small stick.

I'm also reversing up a slight gradient, and it happens first thing in the morning usually when the engine's cold. Not sure this makes any difference, but just thought I'd mention it.

Underway, there's no knocking to be heard.

Anyone got any clues as to what it might be?

Cheers

Sounds like a CV joint.

If you reverse and come to a standstill, then set of forwards again...does it knock once?

The knock should be louder on full lock.

It doesn't knock at all apart from when I'm reversing first thing in the morning on full lock. Then again when driving forward. It's not particularly loud and feels like its driving over something - almost skipping across, if that makes sense.

Hi. Does that sound coming from front or rear of the car ?? If front, I would say CV Joint as well. I don't really know any other thing that can make a knocking/ticking noise while turning. Normally it starts from single tick and then it's going only worst. The best way to check if it's CV joint, is to go somwhere on the BIG car park (Tesco on Sunday evening ) and do a few circles on full lock. Put your head behind the window and listen. Do it in both directions - left and right, forward and backward.

It's from the front of the car, but only seems to be when Im at home on a bit of slope. Everywhere else it seems absolutely fine to be honest.

Someone somewhere else said it was just a normal Subuaru 4x4 thing, where the diff is unlocking when placed at full lock in reverse.

Doesn't mean much to me, if I'm honest, but he didn't seem to worried about it on his car.

Hello there
I'm new here too and just thought i'd mention that my 04 WRX does exactly the same thing when i put full left lock on, slight knocking sound and feels like the outer wheel is skipping, doesn't do it with right lock and also only does it when cold when i'm going forward or reversing, usually first thing in a morning as i pull out of my parking space. Could it be something to do with the diff being stiff first thing until the oil circulates properly??
