Jerks through high rev gear changes
hi
i've noticed when bringing my scooby on boost and pushing it through the high rev range, it jerks quite badly when changing gear, specifically 2nd and 3rd more than any others. Its apparently got an exedy clutch in it but i've been told it needs an ecu reset to get rid of this?? however, it had a new IACV on wednesday and the ecu was reset then.
any ideas greatly appreciated!

its a 1998 classic 2000 shell with a v5/6 sti engine fitted, all i know about it (only had it 2 weeks) is its got an exedy clutch (apparently) and an ihi turbo and some kind of funky dump valve lol other than that, its standard as far as i know!
edit - i forgot to mention the massive chav cannon the guy put on it but its not been de-catted thankfully!

I take it was a UK MY98 car (3 vents on the front bumper and not 2? or the crystal lights?)
You need to see if the ecu has been changed for the engine, if the car was a UK car and has had a later phase 2 engine fitted then it could be that which is the issue and that could really start causing you problems, hence why its more advisable to avoid cars with engine change outs to later versions.
You may have just opened a can of worms on your car and if you have any pics of the car (interior dash is good as that will confirm the car year) and the engine (and ecu) it will help identify any issues there

i would have thought that the ecu would have been changed with the engine, post some numbers up off the ecu. i would start with the basics and work your way up ie plugs, fuel, air leaks, maf ,doing a engine change is ok as long as ecu, loom and engine all match up

i'll get some numbers off the ecu tomorrow and post them up!
he did say when we took it that it needed new plugs and fuel filter as in high revs it hesitates like its got a misfire but i wasnt sure if this was the elec boost controller cutting in? defo no air leaks as we've been through all that already and the MAF defo works as it stalls the engine when unplugged, fingers crossed plugs and filters will work, i dont want a can of worms spilled out lol

Yup the car has an MY99/00 front end but the interior points it out to be a MY98 car, could be interesting to see what ecu is running as between the MY98/99 cars the plugs are different (3 v 4 or is it 4 v 3 ) so im thinking you could have some issues, drive off boost until we know what you have ecu wise, though I shall warn you now that this may work out a little expensive if the previous owner (or whoever modified the car) has not replaced the ecu )

i would only open up a can of worms with oil but i use millers and have done in my evos and subarus with no problem ngk are fine i run my last evo on ngks with 400bhp no problems at all others running iridiums, not ngk ones ie performance plugs come unstuck in the long run with boost problems ps my optimism is all ways check the basics first and 99% of the time it works we had a little a class merc in the work shop run like a pig other garages had put in new ecu plugs o2 sensors but no one had done the simple test ie the fuel pressure i checked it new fuel filter at a cost of 18 pound and fixed.hope yours is as easy

I have some NGK Iridium BKR7EIX Plugs if someone can confirm they will do the job and you want them, were bought and fitted to my classic, but were only fitted a week as the Turbo blew and then i stripped it for bits, for some reason never got around to getting rid of these. Saves you a few quid too as i wouldnt charge you anywhere near that much

I have done some reading up myself, and these are a perfect upgrade plug, better than standard, and slightly better than platinum plugs, so they are good to go, if you still want them?
