Default lumpy accelaration

just lately my car has started to get a bit of holding back followed by all i can describe as a surge.. it does this either when nailing it or at steady speeds, usually betwen 60-80 although around the 3k rpm in any gear when it starts playing up. now i have to admit i never changed the fuel filter at the recommended 30k service, so i am hoping its that, but i am dreading it being something more sinister, ie, turbo on its way out. could it be the maf sensor also? btw this is standard apart from the ppp, de-resonated centre section, arb, alk, and coilovers. so hopefully still fairly bulletproof. cheers, lee.

I sometimes get this on my hawkeye WRX.

How did you narrow it down to this and was it an easy fix to clean etc.

For the mechanically inept where is the boost control valve? as I will have a look at mine

cheers

probably the same thing then. apparently fairly common in most models. i described this to a scooby mechanic and he diagnosed it over the phone.apparently its either this or something else specific, but usually 9/10 this. the process the mechanic took (i am also mech. inept lol) was to hook together 2 green plugs under the dash which keeps the fans etc going. then as you look at engine, to left corner attatched to wing is 2 pipes attatched to what looks like a U bend with a sensor attatched. remove pipes (remembering top and botom) and blast through plasticUbend with brake cleaner until all the crap is removed and fluid comes out the same colour as it goes in. easy if you know how lol. aywhere near manchester? can send yu to a guy that knows his stuff and will take him 5 mins.

Will prob get Richard Henry's to look at it next time its in as I also need a rear brake strip down & clean.

Just out of interest what is the purpose of connecting the plugs together for the fan etc.??
