It'll either be your boot seal or most probably coming in through the back lights mate, very common problem

Boot seal, back lights, seals on the spoiler are the most common issues.

Only a few of us........I wish! Most like nearly everybody that has ever OWNED a classic.

The main problems seem to be the rear lights.
Then the spoiler holes.
Then the boot lip seal.
Water can also get in through a degraded rear screen seal.
Or even through the rear wiper seal, if present.
Lastly, (so far), the flaps that are supposed to let air OUT along the bottom edges of the boot sides can stick open, and water can be splashed IN.

Best way to find it is to lie in the boot, lid down, while someone plays a hose over it.
Dry it all thoroughly first, then use paper towels to find leaks.

Once you know WHERE it's coming in, post again and someone will tell you the best way to cure it

Silicine hardens over time, and dries.
You would be better of using an adhesive which does not set/stays sticky.
I used some window caulking on my STI rears, they have been leak free for 5 years, but sadly I do not remember the brand.

Yes, silicone has two main drawbacks: it's not meant for constant immersion and if you DO ever need 'em out again, it's a ROYAL pita to get off.

The best stuff for lights and spoiler holes is called Carafax grey and is the stuff caravan makers use for sealing things like grilles, awning rails etc to the side of caravans. It doesn't set and can be bought from some halfords and all decent caravan dealers.
