Default Wheel bearings -typical life?

My STi is 7.5 yrs. old now but with only 37500 miles. I was wondering what the typical life expectancy of wheel bearings are under normal conditions. Not sure wether I'm getting slight noises when turning I would normally expect wheel bearings to last easily twice that mileage but are Imprezas a special case?

Sold my classic with 84000 miles and had it from 27000, so must have been on original wheel bearings.
I never had a problem with the fronts but both rear wheel bearings packed up, first around 50000 and the second less than 10000 later.

If its that old you need to check also the part that the bearings sit in
I changed the bearings and it made no difference - I then changed the arms that the bearings sat in and the grinding noises I had on turning vanished
