tapping noise

Default tapping noise

HI ALL!

Anytime the my car's engine is cold, i get this tapping noise. I do not know if its a Tappet/Lifter or what!!?? But when the engine is up to temperture its fine......any info would be great! 2002 WRX

possibly piston slap, without hearing it i would assume its that

castrol magnetec 5/30......this is where u tell me its the wrong one?

No you can use it, but only the fully synth stuff, I wouldnt use it myself personally, i stick with a 5w40 fully synth as its not noisy on startup

Yes. Well I dont go back to work untill the 4th so I might drain the old stuff out and give the 5/40 a go!

I thought all magnatec are semi, its the edge that is fully synthetic

Yes its common on forged engines, never had the issue myself with 4 scoobs, 97/98 engines suffered from it badly due to a piston issue, the rest should be ok, especially cast pistons which shouldnt suffer.
It will be down to the oil and the noise will be the tappets.

Lots of engines that seem fine in the summer start to show a bit of slap in the colder weather. It's just audible on my 03 STi just after start in this cold weather.

you should hear my engine on a cold start up, my pistons slap harder than my mom lol but only because i went ott with the piston/bore clearance
