Default Is this a LHD WRX?

Hi to All!

Could anyone help me decoding this?

VIN: JF1GC8LD3VG059010
Applied model: GC8EL8D
Option code: ER
Trim code: 720
Color code: 64C
Engine type: EJ20GNW6NA
Transmission type: TY752VN5AA

These codes appear in the VIN plate of my new MY97 LHD Impreza GT car. It came with some special factory options, such as sunroof, ABS, airbags, 4 piston front calipers and blue seats. It was special ordered to Subaru for the national dealer CEO back in 1997. This car is very rare here in my country as you can see.

It seems to be a WRX (because of the EJ20G engine code), but I have my doubts. The applied model as you see is GC8EL8D instead of GC8E48D (applied model of the MY97 JDM WRX V4 4door sedan). What do you think? The "L" instead of the "4" means that is a LHD 4 door WRX for the Euro/Canada/America market?

I'll post pics later of the VIN Plate and the car (can't upload pics in imageshack and others from my office).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Your car is an MY98 model WRX 4 door, that L should be a 4, the gc8 is the model code, E is MY98, L should be 4 for a 4 door, normally denotes doors, 8 is wrx and d is 5 speed manual.
These will all be rhd unless its been converted to LHD at the factory.
You may get the odd one popping up, still dont know what the "L" stands for.
Your transmission is interesting, for your year GT it should by TY752VN6AA according to the chart im looking at, they did a 5BA but cant see a 5AA.
Engine seems to be for a 98 model year car, last of the EJ20G's before they went to the 205/207's.
Interesting though, guessing what the L is.... you need to check against another GT tbh to see what that say's.

Thanks a lot for the help, Tony! As I thought, according to the applied model code it is a MY98 WRX. It was registered in my country National Vehicle Registry as a 98 model manufactured in 1997.

But what still intrigates me is what that "L" stands for. I will look to other local GTs VIN Number plates and tell you.

Will post pics tomorrow!

Its possible it was a special order from Japan for the EU market ie Holland or Germany or Switzerland. I used to live in Germany and i was good friends of a guy whos father had a dealership in Switzerland.

The father had a 00 type R imported specially for the euro market for a customer in his local town. It was built LHD to order and had a euro spec ECU to conform with ECC, this enabled the car to be registered in Switzerland and meet the emmisions standards.

A good chance your car was built on similar lines, ie a bespoke order. That will explain the long chassis number over the normal JDM short number.

Thanks for your comment!

Yes, I have the same opinion as you. I haven't seen an Impreza GT Turbo (WRX) with these factory options. Even in the internet it's hard to find pics.

I'll take a pic of the ECU and will post it tomorrow.

That's right, Tony. The 64C code stands for "green mica" paint. I checked the history of the car at the National Vehicle Registry and they changed the color in 2004
