Default Key problem - newbie

hi folks,
i'm mark and have got my first impreza, only had it 24hrs and need a hand already its a 99 model,
ok here it goes, on previous cars i have owned you could never pull the key out when the car is running however on my scooby you can, can this be fixed?
also is it true or false that running the car on 95 RON will kill her in the long run?

thanks in advance and sorry for being a biff on my first post

Hi maxi,
no there is no turbo timer fitted, when you start the car you can pull the key out and leave it in the running position, i am sure you shouldn't be able to so that though

I've had 2 classics where you could pull the key out of the ignition while the engine was running. Nothing to do with a turbo timer on mine, think the ignition barrels were knackered or something. Never really bothered me that much, so didn't get round to investigating it in any depth.

UK turbo's can be run on 95 quite happily, P1's and 22b's and all new age STI's cannot.
All JDM cars need a minimum of 97 ron, upto and including the 1998 model year cars, after that they need 100 ron fuel to run correctly.
You dont say what model car you have, just the year so....

In total I had those cars about 5 years, never came out while driving or anything, so never bothered investigating it any further. Unless it really concerns you, I'd see how it goes. Obviously if it gets worse (e.g. really loose) then I'd start getting a bit worried.
