Default out of ideas need help please

right i have tried everything i can think off with my car its a 96 uk turbo wagon. it has 3" japspeed exhaust from turbo back, dump valve, walbro fuel pump, ram air induction.

right the problem!!!

every time i put foot down turbo spools up fully and it stutters (0.7 on gauge) still does it if you lift your foot slightly but if you fully come off power and put foot down half way till its about 0.5 boost its fine but put foot down again and stutters again. im out of ideas of what to do. feels as if its cutting fuel

what i have done to try solve problem!

4 new coils
new plugs (ngk platinum 6bs)
new fuel pump
fuel filter
actuator
maf sensor

cleaned boost solonoid pressurised pipes to check leaks
checked compression (full compression)
took exhaust off and checked no play in turbo
took all inlet pipes off including intercooler to check leaks
i have ordered injectors to see if there faulty
been to few garages and they dont know what it is.

just out of ideas and its driving me crazy and draining the wallet

Mine had this little issue.. I had the MAF changed cause PowerStation said it was faulty £98 + VAT ( it wasn't )

My problem was a loose Earth Wire out of the Maf sensor... it was giving a bad signal...

Just a thought.......

Si - How did you sort that out? Did you just sort out the engine earths? Or was it actually a wire in the MAF plug?

Replace the exhaust with the standard one with the cat fitted, see if it still does it.

i would try standard exhaust on it but cat colappsed in it so i had to bin it, dv is fine i tryed standard one on it and made no difference. il check wires to the maf sensor. no fault codes comming up. would it be possible that its cutting fuel or going into a saftey mode when its on on full boost? its just puzzeling me as to what it can be. its probibly something simple just what

IIRC you started another post, about the same car saying it was loosing water? Have you done a sniff test to check for exhaust gasses in the header tank?

well the boost is looking normal at those figures. ive never heard of a way of bench testing a maff sensor, they can some time have faults from dry solders causing them to read signals incorretly. the only way to know is to try another maff on and see if it cures it. what colour maff are you running?

3" system on an unmapped unmodded car is ridiculous and will be losing torque no end.

Induction and dumpvalve with the huge decat is giving your car an AFR headache by the sounds of it

It could undoubtedly always be something else, but at the moment you are on your merry way with countless others to a scoob destined to $hit itself short-medium term

Spend £550 on an ESL remap or other and enjoy proper tuning rather than the crude bolts ons most people go for.

Sounds harsh, but I am helping you !

ur probley best with a simtec ecu as it gets rid of the maf and yes you will have to get it mapped on ur car for ur mods. theres loads of guys on here who will supply and map a simtec for you. try posting for mappers in scottland im sure theres a few up there and they will come to you.

definatly, if you have the cash for a custom map then that is the way forward, no arguments there. esl would be the cheapest and there is an maffless option to. andy forrest is on the borders and does do esl, but most mappers will travel to you to carry out the work (jgm )

If you can get ESL on the maffless as was being offered recently do that. Simtek is good but you need to be on the ball with fuel etc as it lacks certain safety features of the factory ECU which are retained using the daughter board set up with ESL Earthing kits are a good investment on classics. Mine runs much better with the earthing kit properly installed.

would they manage to to it on standard ecu? remap it to suit the mods? dont want to spend to much on it as its a 96 with 170k on clock. always loved imprezas, i bought 2l sport when i turned 18 and just loved the handling and just turned 21 so decided to buy a turbo (wagon purly for my dog to fit in) its a night mare tho £1350 year insurance tpft but its worth it

Well after i removed the air box to put the K&N filter on, i had the check engine light on... it went out, but i was having the same issues with it again, so i removed the Maf plug, sprayed it with some WD40, thats when i realised the earth wire was loose... I pushed it back in ( spot of super glue to hold it in ) an i've not had the issue since...

Check the chip type as not all are born equal, or indeed maffless and remap has different connotations for different levels of 'Specialist' look before you leap

In which case, the best option would be to return it to standard.

Save your pennies mate. Remap is the only 'real' solution.
FCD will mask the problem, not solve it.
