Default Problem air lock (Im hoping)

Hi all I just changed the header tank cap and have noticed that the bottom hose is now cold and had a little coolant seeping out of the side and the top hose was hot and pretty solid and hard to squeeze.

Over the weekend I checked the hoses on sunday and they were both warm both of them you could squeeze when the car was running.

Do you I have an airlock and can just putting a new cap cause this?

Sorry for the long thread

Thanks

Sounds to me like the thermostate could be stuck closed, if top rad hose hot and bottom hose cold, run engine with cap off to get any air out,

if the thermostat was closed then it would be overheating, however there have been cases where it hasn't

then its 98% that the thermostat is ok. if there is an air lock then start the car from cold with the header tank cap off and wait till the air bubbles have come out, by doing this your are eliminating another possibility

Had exactly the same problem on a car ( not subaru ) and the water pump had failed resulting in no flow through the rad to cool down the water ,top hose was boiling bottom cold because it can't circulate. worth checking?
