It seems like your idle speed control valve isn't working mate which is why it picks up in rev's when you pull off the dump valve allowing more air into the system.

The car should stall if you unplug the maf. Sounds like another dodgy maf but it can be alot of other things. Unless you got anti lag which you dont know about

I would tend to agree with you, but there looks to be quite a few modifications to this car which the OP has failed to mention, and we also need to know if the maf was new or not...

Dont provide all the information, dont expect to get an answer thats near close to the issue....

I dont know where people have got the information about unplugging the maf when the car is running, but this is not advisable to do.

if the cars running and i unplug the maf the car cuts out. however a can start the car from that. apparently the car uses something else when you unplug the maf.

looks like you have a baileys d/v which ive heard are known for failing, i had exactly the same issue with my98 classic. took dumpvalve off(although mine is blitz) stripped, cleaned, sealed up and lubed the piston on it, refitted and hey presto.

worth a try! its free.

I would suggest you replace the maf and get it booked in for mapping and try not to use it til then mate. The mixture will be all over the place and the car is over compensating with fuel, eventually you will end up melting it

First, and logical, step would be checking for fault codes stored in the ECU (if any).

It may pinpoint the offending item... Or at least point you down the right road for diagnosis...

What turbo are you running? Tbh I personally think You won't get a diagnosis over the Internet. You need to take it to a specialist. Your only gonna get people guessing

hi again.

i am running standard turbo a td04. i have swapped my dumpvalve over with another classic so the dumpvalve is not an issue.

the car was plugged into the global obd and it couldnt pick the car up. i dont know why.

i have tried the plugs underneath the car and came back with no faults.

Re 'OBD' port - I don't think it's OBD protocol. The software you were using prob didn't speak the same language?

Contact Splitpin - he knows all about it and will put you right on the MY97/98 comms port.........

firstly was the maf genuine or micky mouse and secondly you should get it mapped straight away this is a must you are just gonna keep guessing. get the re map done then you know everything is as it should be plus the mapper if decent will know where to start with your problem if it continues

LOL only just seen that in his 1st post! That'll be a MY99 then.

It therefore just sees the ECU via SSM protocol

OP would need a ISO9141 cable and EcuExplorer software, then...

I would say maf or dump valve is open/failed or an intercooler pipe is leaking.

the old maf unplug and it should stall is completely rubbish and proves nothing.
Someone mentioned it years ago on here and people have just continued this myth without logic.
