Default Baileys DV....aarrrghhh! help pls!

Hi,

I am a newbie to this site so bear with me.

I have got a 97 impreza prodrive WR (ex-prodrive owned) which is a superb car, but recently i installed a new DV26 and the following started occuring; It would drive fine but when asked for full boost, the car would just die about 5000 rpm, could not rev it, backfire, and then 5-6 secs come back to life and be normal. Could it be the prodrive ECU ???

I have now fitted the original re-circ valve back and all is well and boosting fine (had just recently fitted a boost gauge and holds at 11psi).

Scoobyworld said it is nothing to do with the DV...........i am at a loss with no whoosh sound

Luckily you have come to the right place, and you have a choice.

Which would you rather throw in the bin, your sh1tty DV or your car??

Subaru and Prodrive do not fit them to their cars. Why would you suppose that is??

Welcome to SNet.

Good answer but why then do other 97 models have them and they work?

Thanx for the welcome

You have sort of answered the question yourself , you now have a car thats running as it was designed to or you can fit a s***e dv26 and have your car running the same . No brainer really

They may work for now ,but eventually the springs do weaken and can cause the problems you have + erratic idling, even when new. I have fitted 5 different dumpvalves to my cars over the last 2 years(baileys, forge, gfb, turbosmart, blitz) and the only one which ran ok,all of the time was the blitz (as you could adjust it). That said,it still did not feel as smooth on the gear changes as with the std recirc valve fitted.

Where did you get the idea that aftermarket dumpvalves "work"? They generally p*ss about with mixture control on lift-off, as well as being fundamentally less reliable than the standard part. It's difficult to guess a scenario which would cause the exact subset of symptoms you were experiencing, but as the others have already said, if refitting the OE item cures the problem, you know all you need to.

Should hold in the region of just over 1 to 1.1 bar, depending on ambient temperatures, assuming a regular PPP ECU.

I have an APS blow off valve on mine which recircs and vents to atmosphere and is nice and silent so I don't hear the chav woosh noise as my induction kit is a more pleasing noise with my front mount intercooler. I am actually considering re fitting my oem recirc valve back on as I had more turbo chatter. I would sell my APS recirc for £160

Should be a straight swap.

Not really ,when you have removed the blitz, you should see a pipe beneath the dump valve, this will normally be blanked off with a bung.Simply remove the bung and fit on to your std recirc valve, bolt back to intercooler, and reconnect your vacume pipe. If you cant see the pipe /bung simply look at your inlet hose to the turbo compressor incase the previous owner has removed the inlet tract tube and put a bung in the side of the inlet hose
