As I'm having issues with my cars running, I was clutching at straws yesterday and thought hey 'wonder what would happen if I unplug the plug on the maf sensor?' so anyway for a start the car started much quicker than usual, and seemed very smooth under mild throttle. However as I expected when I gave it some beans it was all over the place so I quickly plugged it back in and hey presto it took a few more turns to start and was hesitating again. I have no CEL, but am I right in thinking this would only show a failed sensor not a failing one? Would cleaning the maf help do ya think?

Yes, you are correct, you will only get a code once the sensor is out of range.

 

There are a few posts on here from splitpin about a check for your MAF.

Don't forget to reset the ECU after fitting the new sensor.

They do............once we point them at it, like I did.

I wish more people would list car and MY too.

 

I did PM Lisa when she put the sticky up in Gen Tech, re putting a line or two in asking users to put their cars in their garages. But as she said, we'll be lucky if any one reads it anyway.

 

TBH I prefer the wording the way she's got it - asking posters to include relevant info in the thread, rather than in the garage. If you're scanning through a stack of posts it's far easier if it's all there rather than a click or few away.

 

My train of thought was, the lazy gits will only have to type out the spec/mods once, and it is then 'stuck' there for all to see. If you take half an hour out to put your vehicle in the garage there is less chance of missing out the odd mod or two, even if you do, you can return and update the info. Rather than "oh yeah, i forgot to mention..."

It's a compromise if you like. Better to have the info a couple of clicks away than not available at all.
