Do I need a re map

Do I need a re map
Hi all,
I have just bought a 2006 hawk eye wrx. I bought it as standard and have just put on a turbo back de cat cobra 3" exhaust, the guy that put it on at my local power flow specialist said I wood get about a 30 bhp gain. (is this accurate)? The car does feel quicker.
I'm just enquiring about if I really need a remap and what gains I could expect from this and what sort of remaps people recommend.
At the moment everything else is standard.
Any help given is gratefully received as this is my first Subaru and I know very little about the cars.
But I'm thourghly enjoying driving it.
Thanks
Doug

If you haven't got a cel on now you soon will have, not recommended to go full decat without remap, boost control will not be operating correctly drive off boost and get it done asap. Or get your standard downpipe put back on and stick with a cat back until you get it mapped

If you put a decat downpipe on the ecu cannot control the engine within the safe margins.5 secs of boost engine will fail maybe not now but later on,piston lands partially melt next time on full boost they fail.Put cat pipe back on until remap,I really hope for you everything will be fine

Hi, thanks for your comments. The guy that put the exhaust on told me it would be ok and i havnt driven the car hard since it was put on anyway. I have just emailed that Andy Forrest guy so hopefully I can get the remap soon. Can anyone also give me an idea to any other mods that can boost performance and looks. Bearing in mind I will be going for the stage 1 remap to start with.
Thanks
Doug
Thanks
Doug

Iv spoken to a few specialist about this remap after decat, just trying to find out more really as im considering it myself! But the specialists that i have spoken to have said that its fine to run the exhaust with no cats in the exhaust without a remap.
What is the issue of running no cats without a remap?
How does the remap achieve the 'solution' to it?

Quick response as typing on my phone.
It is resolved with a remap but custom setting up the car to the mods on it, altering boost, fuellig and ignition.
Depends what the car is, usually find for example a 2litre wrx newage is safe decat but will produce more power mapped.

No, it has to do with air fuel and timing mate as jolly says - the specialist. The exhaust will literally allow the turbo to spin faster and therefore produce more boost. The ecu may not compensate for this fuel wise thus running lean. Lean = things break very fast. And if the fueling is within the safe range, then the timing wont be, thus still creating det. This is what a lean mixture produces. So no an air filter won't help, if you want the car to last you, spend the money on the map, then in future get a dump valve fitted a Forge one or similar and you 'shouldn't need a remap then.

Ok I have spoke to 2 specialists today Andy forrest and also wallace performance. Both say different things about the remap. 1 says I don't need a upgraded fuel pump because the injectors are the same size as the sti. Has anyone had any dealings with either of these tuners? If so how were they?

I had a 3" turbo back exhaust on my Hawk and when I got it mapped it was already running 249bhp and fuelling was spot on.
You shouldnt need a pump for that level of tune but they can be had for about £65 from Apex performance and is easy to fit so might as well stick one in, IMO.

Thanks,
The car seems to be running fine, there is power and boost when I need it and there is no noises coming from the engine or turbo.
What sort of figures did yours produce with the ramap?
Cheers
Doug
Ian taking it to wallace performance to get checked anyway. If it's ok I'm going to leave it till after the winter and remap it. If not then will do it soon.

The torque is the big thing with a remapped and decatted hawk WRX. You should be seeing around the 350 lb/ft torque. This makes for a great road car. I have had mine done and well pleased it made 285bhp and 350 torque
You probably dont need an uprated fuel pump but for peace of mind I changed mine as they are cheap to buy
You could also change the plugs to 6's (cooler plug) but again maybe not necessary
