Default loud straight cut gear box

hi guys i just bought my scoob its a version 6 sti , mad power 400bhp my only gripe with it is that the gear box is quite loud wen i take my foot off the power but quiet wen foot on the power almost a grinding noise , although my mechanic says this is normal for this type of box im not to happy with the noise and am thinking what can i do to get rid of the annoying sound other than changing the box to a standard one?any advice would be great

A standard box would be eaten alive, hence why you probably have a dog box fitted

Put some bigger speakers in the car and turn the volume up.

lol, only joking mate, not a lot you can do I am afraid, if the car is producing that type of power then as Tony has said, a standard box will lead a very short and painful life.

hi dont think whining bearing as not a whining noise , maybe it still making noise but car so load prob just cant hear it lol, find gears great proper short shift, ,will a 6 speed just bolt on? do they do a 6 speed for v6 sti? bit gutted as may have to consider getting a more standard scoob coz of the kids, i can hopefully find some1 who wants to swap boxes that would be an ideal solution

You could look for a 6-speed, but you need the drive shafts, rear diff etc etc. Doesn't come out cheap, mine was £1900, but I like it.

You may also need a new clutch and flywheel, so budget another £6-700

Oh, and if getting the 6 speed, get the starter and clutch cylinder with it.

I'll swap boxes with you... heck, may even swap cars!

Trouble is I only have a 5-speed box in my ver6 and at that power you'd go thru it in no time.

But if you do decide to buy a 6-speed box I'd be interested in buying your box if its a proper straight cut... or even a ppg if its got uk 5 and billet forks
