Default boost issues

right then i could really do with some help as my car is doin my head in,i currently own a 2003 wrx and for the past week the boost seems to have gone mad, heres some descriptions

1,one minute i can hop in the car and take it for a spin and it is fine

2,then i can get in it 10 mins later and in 1st and 2nd it will go through the rev range perfect, boosting to its set settings, then when i change into 3rd gear it will be fine through the rev range up until 5000rpm then the car seems to hold back and only boost upto 0.7-0.8 bar up until 7000rpm then when i change into 4th and plant my foot the warn comes up for over boost

3,then i can get into the car on another occassion and same again 1st and 2nd are fine then when i change into 3rd the warn comes up for overboost change into 4th and warn comes up again then change into 5th and warn comes up again

i have checked all over the boost pipes and none have come off and none have split and to be fair they are silicone and have only been on the car a couple of months and have never had any issues up until this past week

i really could do with getting to the bottom of it,could it possibly be the boost solenoid on its way out and info would be much appreciated

I'd swap out the boost solenoid for a known working replacement as a first test, yes. Or at the very least blast brake/clutch cleaner fluid through your one.

Any CELs? If not, then double check by testing for any stored historic codes...

+1 to above and double check all the hoses mate as it only takes a small leak in one to cause issues and if its on the under side of one of the pipes it could have eluded you

What dump valve are you using, could be a weak spring. Fit a standard recirc and see how it goes...

Just thought... Is it possible to put the 2003 cars in diagnostic mode like you can the Classics with the wires underneath the steering column?

If so, then do that to see if BCS is opening/closing continuously and rapidly. Also, whilst it's doing it, you can liberally spray the cleaner through its top port (after firstly disconnecting the vac hoses)...

Sounds like the same issue I'm having in my classic, looking forward to hearing some ideas for a fix!
