Does a decat need a remap?
Hi guys,
Been offered a bargain exhaust system, full 3" from turbo back and is a decat system.
Can I have it bolted straight on or will there be a problem requiring a remap?
Donor car is identical age and spec to mine.
Thanks Chris

what you can do if you cant get a remap is fit it pop your car on the rollers and see how it is feuling and boosting and they can fit a few thiongs like a daws device for the boost and a feul cut device and bit to get the most out of it you need a remap really

Thanks for your reply!
So do you think the car would actually have a problem with the decatted exhaust if there was NO remap or are you saying it just wont be optimized?

no if you fit it with out a remap you need to get it check onthe rollers as it could make more boost and run wrong and then cause you probl;ems saying that i now many people have fitted and not done either but it up to you but you want make the extra bhp with a remap really

If you drive carefully it would be ok but you wont, engine will run weak no 4 piston will probably melt, dawes valves are not good, put 3" system with sports cat you have half a chance.Nothing is cheap when you look at the possible outcome.

i was in this situation untill today and i couldnt take the risk, so in the end i went for a sports cat, and off that to a 2nd decat (done away with the 2nd cat in the center sec of the exhaust) straight through to the back box. it defo flows better and hums more and am pleased with the result and now its all nice n shiny in stanless steel

Hi im thinking about fitting a milltek full decat system to my 2006 2.5 sti and getting a remap. Are miltek any good ? what kind of power/torque would i be looking at and what is the best source of mapping...on the road mapping or on the rollers. Im new to the subaru sceen so not too clued up etc... Is it even actually safe to remap the 2.5 sti engine. Any feedback would be great....?

Do a search..............you could expect 360 bhp/380 lbft ish IIRC. Remap can make your engine safer. Use a good mapper, several on here, and you are away. Don't take too much notice of scaremongering - 2.5 block is a bit weaker because less metal.
Milltek is top notch BTW

You should expect 360ish bhp and around 400 lb/ft of torque from it. It absolutely flies.
There is no problem with mapping to that level - mine did 40000 miles at that sort of level with lots of track abuse too.
Where abouts are you based ?

Hi based in wakefield west yorkshire. you say yours did 40,000 miles....then what! did it blow up or something?. With the 2.5 engine is it just a case of waiting for it to go or with reguular services and coolant changes can it be alright. Or do you think there are many people on this forum who are possibly over exaggerating about knacking up etc?

hi dynamix. Im really thinking im gonna get the miltek system just not sure wheather to get the de cat one or the sports cat one. what would the difference in power gains/losses be between the two. if you were going to map my car would i also need to get a walbro 225 fuel pump? where you based and what kind of money we talking do do the mapping.

Decat will give about 5-10 bhp more but balance that against the hassle come MOT time and the extra cost of the sports cat.
It is never a bad idea to get a walbro 255 fuel pump and I would always recommend but it isnt always 100% essential.
I am based in cambridgeshire but travel throughout the uk.
Cost wise - £350

ok good to know. I had a civic type r before this and had several remaps then moved on to a supercharged set up. but from the minute i had the first remap the car run a lot more economical. fuel costs went down when driven steady. will my impreza be same as now or better on fuel or worse ?
