Manual Boost Controller - £35 off Ebay with a Boost gauge to make sure you arent over doing it

Had to do it on my MY98 Uk Turbo, works fine, just not quite as smooth coming on/off boost as a proper re-map. Keep it under a Bar to keep Engine Safe.

bollox i knew my little theroy was too good to be true, i throught i stood a chance of missing the my97 bracket due to it being made in 96 and regesterd on 1/1/1997. the car as it stands already boosts to 22psi and will hold 19-20psi ,as the previous owner has had a little chip wired into the ecu. i am happy with the boost and iam satisfide most of the time with its performance. it would just be nice to have it tweeked and then get the decat down pipe on and get good benifit from it.

see this is what i dont know as i got **** all paper work with the car when i got it last year. i knew as soon as i drove it that it felt faster than any other standed scoob i had driven. looking at the heads they look to me as if they have been skimmed before. also cuming off the pipe from the boost solenoid(2port) there are two t`s in it, 1 as normal that runs to turbo n inlet, and another before that, which has a foot long larger pipe that runs over the maf with sum sort of filter or valve thing on the end, which i dont know of it purpose (cant get pics up). there is also the ajuster still bolted in from the manual boost controller but no pipes attached to it so the car has been messed with to some degree. i did,,, not long back renew the pipe that holds ther pill and cleaned all the boost solenoid etc and i got slightly more boost(about 5psi more)dont now why.see i dont know what this car has had done to it over the years i only got the full service history and that was it.

It would be worth paying a specialist a few quid to look the car over for you and work out what's what. As the others have already commented, if the engine is standard, it's probably not going to cope with the sort of boost pressures it is currently dealing with for very long - especially if the "little chip soldered into the ECU" is a crude fuel cut defender/boost clamp/etc.

The bottom line is that you can't do anything with it until you know what you have and what its capabilities and sensible limits are.

My MY00 UK Turbo 2000 is running a Bob Rawle remap and supporting mods to 330 bhp. I doubt that he would do that to it if it was going to blow it to pieces! At least i hope not
