Default ECU dilema?!

i've recently bought my latest late '92 wrx import. it's fitted with a td05, decat, d/v, bleed valve (boost control), the usual standard mods.

my only dilema is it's still got the standard u8 ecu, which has supposedly been fitted with a pp chip to increase boost pressure, fuel cut, etc.
i had a bit of a play with the bleed valve as it was only boosting at around 0.8 bar. i took it up gradually, but when reaching about 1 - 1.1 bar it was like the fuel cut limit hadn't been adjusted and wouldn't run right at all.
so do i look into different ecu's or simply buy a fuel cut defencer? (if it will work with the chip??)

Are there any splits in pipes or any air leak. As this could affect things.

has it even been chipped? you need to take the lid off of the ecu and post a clear picture of the inside so we can put you right, by the sounds of it, it isnt chipped as you shouldn't be hitting fuel cut at that boost level.

You could buy a cheap Z4 ecu ,or opt for a polar performance chip, both are available in the ' for sale ' section on here. Both will suit your td05 as well.

i can't see any splits in any of the breather pipes, but i'll double check. as for the pic i'll take the ecu out tomorrow morning and post up the pic. like i say i've been told it's been chipped and in with the paper work i've got instructions and diagrams etc for the fitting of the pp chip and supposed limits for it, ie, 16 psi boost, etc.
IF it has been chipped, would a z4 not be a worse ecu than the one i've already got?? and would it make sense to try a fuel cut defencer??

Just had similar issues with mine. Import 1995 TD05 and Z4 ecu.
Basically the actuator on the turbo was naff, so when boosting it was creeping past the waste gate, so never boosting properly, swapped for another and it is back to normal again. Mind you I also had an Injector issue to so it was missing as well, but the actuator arm moved way too easily. And mine was hitting fuel cut around 4500 ish.
When I changed the actuator I had over tightened the arm so was hitting 15psi and fuel cut, unwound it by a revolution and a half (of the bit that goes onto the waste gate arm not the arm itself) and she`s bang on boosting to 14 then settling at 13psi, this is using the standard boost controller as I`m not a fan of those manual bleed valves.

Think with mine cos it was loosing boost the turbo was boosting too much causing the boost controller (or what ever lol) to max out so cutting boost.

Could yours be iffy or the adjuster, not on right so wound off??

checked all the breather pipes and all seem good. then removed the ecu and took some pics.

That is not a PolarP chip, this is

I have no idea what you have fitted. Maybe someone else will recognise it

edit; You could always rejoin the J1 and see if you feel any difference? At least this way you can be sure of the fuelling but you wiil only have 0.8-0.9bar boost with a 1bar cut off. (sounds like what you already have)

I have a genuine PolarPerformance chip for sale here.

Also 6K and 7K ECU is a decent upgrade aswell as the Z4 mentioned earlier.
