2nd hand Simtek ECU questions?
Hello,
I just bought a second hand Simtek ECU for my 1998 Type R off another scoobynet member. His sale description was...
'Simtek e.c.u off my 1998 turbo 2000 ( 3 plug type ). Mapped by Bob Rawle with two maps. 1st standard boost, the other for a panel filter, walbro, and 3" complete decat. Boost peaked at 1.4bar and settled at 1.2 bar.'
My mods are the same as above except for the panel filter & Walbro. I'm gonna book a remap anyway but I was wondering if I could fit it to my car without causing any damage because the map on it isn't for my car, even though the mods are very similar. Or am I best leaving it for my mapper to fit & sort out?
Also, I only have the ECU board. How do I use the ECU functions once it's fitted? Should I not have some sort of controller for it?
Cheers.

I would fit it on the day of mapping, only takes 10 minutes to swap over plus i guess it was running maffless and your stock ecu setup wont be.
No controller no, there should be an socket on the board for a cable to connect a laptop.

Yeah I've seen the plug on the board. Thought it was there for the mapper. It hasn't got AL or LC enabled but it does have 2 different maps. I wondered how you activate the LC if it was enabled, or change between maps? Would you need to plug a laptop in each time you want to change maps or activate LC?

map switching can either be done with a switch or using the throttle position when you switch on the ignition. It depends on how it has been set up on the ecu map.
it will need mapping for your car.
LC needs to be set up on the ecu software and is normally activated through a switch wired to the ecu.
